What Rights?

I thought that I had earned the right
To have my life put at ease
Just because I went to church
Read my Bible and spent time on my knees
So, I asked the Lord one day
Just what are my rights?
Can you list them one by one?
As I struggle through the dark nights?
I waited for an answer from God
It seemed it took quite a while
God seemed to just encourage me
Just walk on one more mile
The answer became so necessary
I began to doubt the way I felt
I just knew it would overwhelm me
Until before the Lord I knelt
He began to speak to me
About all the rights I thought I had
I didn’t know the way He spoke
If I would get up with my heart glad
He said,“You gave up your rights” to me
When you repented of all your sin
That gave me the privilege to forgive you
It allowed me to move right in
Now don’t get me wrong, child
Of all the rights you do keep one
You have the right to eternal life
Through the death of my own Son
Leave all the others at the cross
You won’t have to stress over what you are dealt
The world will take away all but the one
Your life became eternal when at the cross you knelt
