The Cross and Me
The cross lay ready, a life to take
This particular day, the entire world was at stake
They bought "the man" drove in the nails
Nails made of love that never fails
He had the thorn crown pushed into His head
People yelling, "Crucify", wanting Him dead
Blood flowing, its value not known
All they saw was a king with no throne
Up went the cross, dropping in the ground
No one caring, there was no coming down
He spoke no defense, dying for sin
God gave His Son for those of us crucifying Him
As He clenched His teeth and cried aloud
I would imagine He was heard over all the crowd
"My God, My God, Why hast Thou forsaken Me?"
God couldn't look at His Son dying,
BECAUSE OF ME
